Punjab Institute of Textile Technology, Amristar (PITT), one of the oldest and pioneer institutes of India was established in 1920 by the Punjab Government. It is working under the Directorate of Technical Education and Industrial Training (Technical Education Wing), Punjab and is affiliated to the Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chanidgarh. PITT is situated in the holy city of Amritsar, on the G.T. Road, opposite Guru Nanak Dev University. The institute is at a distance of about four kilometers from the Amritsar Railway Station and about six kilometers from the Amritsar Bus Stand, spread over an area of about 12.5 areas, PITT has beautifully laid out campus.
The Institute has workshops/ laboratories of spinning, weaving, Mechanical, Dyeing and Printing, Inspection and Quality control. These are well equipped with the Modern machinery. The weaving workshops has power looms with Jacquards and Dobbies, Winding Machines, Automatic looms and one Dornier Shuttleless Loom. Similarly in the handloom section handlooms are equipped with jacquards and Dobbies.
The Spinning workshop has one N.S.E. Automatic Blow room line with one scutcher having automatic lap Doffing System, One conventional Card, One high speed Card, Conventional D/F and One High Speed D/F with Auto leveler and one simplex machine and Two Ring Frames and One fancy Doubling Machine.
