Punjab Institute of Textile Technology, Amristar (PITT), one of the oldest and pioneer institutes of India was established in 1920 by the Punjab Government. It is working under the Directorate of Technical Education and Industrial Training (Technical Education Wing), Punjab and is affiliated to the Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chanidgarh. PITT is situated in the holy city of Amritsar, on the G.T. Road, opposite Guru Nanak Dev University. The institute is at a distance of about four kilometers from the Amritsar Railway Station and about six kilometers from the Amritsar Bus Stand, spread over an area of about 12.5 areas, PITT has beautifully laid out campus.

It has sufficient infrastructure in the form of workshops for spinning, weaving, mechanical and carpentry workshop and laboratories for inspection and quality control, Dyeing and printing, Textile Designing and Computer Centre, Edusat Room, L.R.U.C room, Communication lab. The institute has well furnished class rooms, and halls for Designing. Drawing and multipurpose activities. In addition to spacious playgrounds it has one guest house, Staff quarters for class – IV employees and two boys hostels with a capacity to accommodate over one hundred students. All the courses offered by the institute are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
